Uganda
Uganda, is a landlocked country in East Africa, with diverse landscape encompassing the snow-capped Rwenzori Mountains and immense Lake Victoria. Uganda has 56 tribes and about nine indigenous communities that are formally recognized. The land covers an area of 241,038 km².
Uganda boasts of the highest concentration of primates than any other country in the world, with the world’s second largest fresh water lake, largest tropical lake and home to the world’s longest river Lake Victoria in central Uganda.
Home to the remote Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, a renowned mountain gorilla sanctuary which lies in the south western Uganda, covering 321km2. This mist covered forest is the home to over 400 mountain gorillas which is more than half of the world’s population of the remaining mountain gorillas and are the main attraction of the park which habituate 11 Gorilla groups/families in the park.
Murchison Falls in the northwest known for its 43m-tall waterfall and wildlife and herbivores such as the hippos. The park is the oldest and largest national park in Uganda covering a surface are of 3893km2 comprising of Murchison Falls National Park, Bugunga and Karuma Falls wildlife reserves. This is the most powerful waterfall in the world, every second the equivalent of 200 bathtubs full of water is forced through a gorge less than seven paces wide.
Queen Elizabeth National Park, is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Africa, commonly known as ‘medley of wonders’ is an ideal habitat for big game, 10 primate species and over 600 bird species.
Queen Elizabeth national park, Murchison falls national park and Lake Mburo national park is the smallest of Uganda’s savannah parks, closest to the highway that connects Kampala to the parks of western Uganda. This is home to 350 bird species including zebras, impalas, elands, buffaloes oribi, Defassa waterbuck and so much more.
