Meru National Park
Location: Meru County, Kenya
Area: 870 km²
Overview
The Meru and Kora sister parks feature luxuriant jungles, coursing rivers, verdant swamp, khaki grasslands, and gaunt termite cathedrals all under the sky’s great blue bowl. Not well known and utterly unspoiled with few places comparable to the remote and ruffed atmosphere found here.
Known as “Complete Wilderness” where you can see Grevy’s zebras, elephants, Bohor reedbucks, Elands, hartebeests, pythons, puff adders, cobras, buffalos, Bush Pig, Waterbuck, Cheetah, leopard, Reticulated Giraffe, Hippopotamus, Bohor Reedbuck, Hartebeest, Python, Puff Udder, Cobra, Buffalo, more than 427 recorded species of Birds.
The park is mainly thorny bushland in the North, wooded grasslands in the West, elsewhere open grassland, and dense riverine forests of Doum and Raffia palm. Accessible from Nairobi (384kms) via Nyeri-Nanyuki-Meru or use Embu all-weather roads.
Park is accessible by road through Maua to Murera Gate (35km) whilst through Embu to Ura Gate (120km, 290km from Nairobi and by air to the main airstrip at Kinna Airstrip, Mulika Lodge Airstrip, and Elsa’s Kopje Airstrip.
