Borana Conservancy
Location: Borana Wildlife Conservancy, Laikipia County, Kenya
Area: 32,000 acres
Overview
Located on the foothills of Mount Kenya, north of the equator, on the Laikipia Plateau. Borana is a non-profit organization dedicated to the sustainable conservation of critical habitats and wildlife. With a mission to provide a sustainable ecosystem, in partnership with our neighbours and community, for critically endangered species on the brink of extinction.
Consisting of 32,000 acres of arid grassland in Kenya’s Laikipia region, which started off as a cattle ranch, is part of the wider Laikipia- Ewaso eco-system which holds the highest diversity of large mammal species of any ecosystem of its size in the world. The Conservancy is nestled between an arid landscape to the north and ancient indigenous forests to the south.
Home to Elephants, Black Rhino, Lion, Jackson’s hartebeest, Reticulated Giraffe, Grevy’s Zebra, and other endangered species. The conservancy strives to retain this land as a pristine wilderness that guests can enjoy firsthand. Guided walks through the bush, a ride across the conservancy on horses or mountain bikes, view the wildlife in open-top safari vehicles, or lounge by the infinity pool and enjoy the view.
As a private conservancy, exclusivity is guaranteed, making every aspect of your safari experience personal, peaceful, and uninterrupted, giving you the rare opportunity to totally immerse in nature.
Here, your adventure is planned to exceed your expectations, like fly fishing on Mount Kenya, Scenic flights, and picnics to the Ngare Ndare Forest.
The collaboration between Borana and neighboring Lewa Conservancy merged two separate land areas creating 93,000 acres of contiguous rhino rangeland, giving a holistic approach committed to tourism, ranching, and other enterprises to build local livelihood and enhance eco-system integrity. Through the Borana Education Support Programme and mobile clinic.
