Overview
A chance to immerse yourself in unspoiled nature, leaving the stresses of day-to-day world behind. Siwandu Selous Camp is sheltered in a grove of palms on the shores of Lake Nzerakera, part of the watery byways of the Rufiji River system, perfectly located to experience in full the breathtaking landscape and abundant wildlife of the Nyerere National Park (former Selous).
Covering an area of 30,893 km2 (11,928 sq mi) in the northern part of the well-known Selous is now one of the world’s largest wildlife sanctuaries at twice the size of Belgium. Nyerere has the largest population of area wild dogs on the planet, 40,000 hippos, over 4,000 lions, probably the largest population in Africa including a number of Big Five – Lion, Elephant (almost half of the population in Tanzania) Rhino, Leopard and Buffalo (over 120,000).
Also included Cheetah, Giraffe, Hippo, Zebra, over 2,100 species of plants and an excess of 400 varieties of birds all maybe seen whilst you enjoy your own private game drive vehicle and private guide for the ultimate game driving experience. The guided walking safaris are for guests over 16years plus and require pre-booking. There are conducted by an armed, specialist walking guide and an armed TANAPA guide.
Well-spaced along the lakeshore, Siwandu’s superbly-appointed accommodation ensures maximum privacy within 13 spacious octagonal tents of canvas feature, a majestic king-size bed, secure mosquito netting, an overhead fan, an open-air stargazer, and solar-heated showers which adjoin the en suite bathrooms.
The elevated lounge and dining area offers panoramic views across the lake whilst enjoying a drink from the well-stocked bar, sample chef’s fine cuisine complemented by a good wine selection or take a plunge in the shaded pool and recline on the sun lounger. As Tanzania is a malaria zone, take precaution on the necessary medication from your physician.
The Camp is accessible from Dar es Salaam (45mins), Arusha, Zanzibar, Kilwa, Mafia and Ruaha on scheduled flights – Coastal Aviation, Auric, Safari Airlink, Zan Air fly to Mtemere Airstrip with an hour’s scenic drive to the camp.
