Overview
The camp is
situated in the northern part of Nyerere National Park, the second largest protected wilderness area in the world. The Camp is so much part of the Rufiji’s ebb and flows, it seems almost moored on the banks, with one side entirely open to the river. Legendary foot safaris were pioneered here, yet the Camp is as action-packed and exciting now.
Sand River offers 8 stylish stone thatched open fronted rooms with views of the river, set on raised decks. The 5 Riverside rooms have ensuite open air bathrooms with a view, hot and cold running water, flush toilets and shower. The 3 Hillside Suites have same amenities as the Riverside rooms, with an adjoining extra-large living space and a small plunge pool.
The lounge is an airy cool place to relax, an open-air dining room, bar, all beautifully constructed on sweeping curve of the great Rufiji River, offering stunning views across the water. With exciting activities all tailored to suit each guest, be it game drives, walking safaris fishing, or boating trips and fly camping under mosquito nets on the dry river bed within the reserve, this requires an advance booking.
