Overview
Volcano National Park offers endangered species this precious land that’s tells a story of Rwanda. A country always striving forward, fueled with positivity both nationally and locally. The park is the 1st national park in Africa and home to the endangered mountain gorillas. A place that has fostered a spirit of love and protection over the years, and is renowned for Dian Fossey’s extensive study of mountain gorillas.
Surrounded by swaying 60 ft eucalyptus trees and fragrant roses, One & only Gorilla’s Nest encourages you to gaze into the mirror through eye opening encounters with majestic mountain gorillas and experience the story of Rwanda. There is a perfect ecosystem that connects the resort with local areas of Kinigi and Musanze. The plant life contributes to everything from your welcome drink, culinary experiences and the logs burning on the fire, every plant and tree is chosen to encourage native wildlife to flourish.
An intimate collection of 21 lodges and suites, enveloped in eucalyptus and volcano views. Namely the Forest View Treehouse, Susa Treehouse, Virunga Suite, Ingagi Suite, Silverback Suite and Jack Hana Cottage. Take in the world from the forest balcony or share a rose-infused drink by the fireplace, the Forest Treehouses are more than just a place to sleep. Whilst the suites are set atop fertile lands with warm interiors come to life through the geometric shapes and patterns of the traditional local art from Imigongo, vibrant colours and rich timbers unique to Rwanda.
The chefs ensure unused ingredients are returned to Musanze where they are used in fertilizer to grow produce which is then sold back to the One & Only Gorilla’s Nest culinary Team, who prepare the seasonal dishes crafted in the resort’s kitchen as part of a rich eco-conscious cycle as such delicious local coffee benefits from pesticide free growth.
The resort is accessible by road, through a scenic 2 hr 50min (72.6 mi) drive or hire your own chartered helicopter a 25 min flight from Kigali International Airport. Other amenities at the resort include The Nest is the social heart of One & Only Gorilla’s Nest from early morning coffee to a romantic evening meal. Forest View Treehouse: Has a forest view, 77 sq m/829 sq. ft, sleeps 2 guests, king size -bed or 2 singled bed, ensuite bathroom, standalone bathtub with undisturbed private views, outdoor jungle showers, a secluded open-air viewing deck, a fireplace, TV, Wi-Fi access, a refreshment centre. Susa Treehouse: 2-bedroom garden haven encircled by undisturbed rainforest. Size 87 sqm/938 sq. ft, sleeps 3 guests, a king bed in the master room, second room has a convertible twin or king bedroom, the large bathroom features a spectacular standalone bath with private view, interconnecting room, Wi-Fi access, refreshment centre, private dining, TV, furnished outdoor viewing deck and a cozy fireplace.
Ingagi Suite: Named after the majestic mountain gorilla, size 251 sq m/2,02 sq. ft, master bedroom with standalone bathtub, indoor and outdoor shower, spacious deck to lounge or dine in the fresh forest air, an expansive living and dining space with a cozy fireplace. Enjoy your personalized meals by the resident chef and butler service on call. Virunga Suite: Size 147 sq m/1,582 sq. ft, sleeps 2 guests, king size-bed, ensuite grand master bathroom with a large standalone bath and shower, a separate living and dining space with a roaring fireplace. Light-filled suite, with floor-to ceiling glass and open-air bathtub blend indoor and outdoor living, balcony, internet access, TV and refreshment Centre, space to lounge on your deck or dine al fresco. The resident chef ensures all your meal desires are met and your butler is always on call.
Silverback Suite: Size 402 sq m/ 4,402 sq ft, sleeps 2 guests, master bedroom has a king size-bed, with a spectacular private bathroom, a large living room and dining room provides space to unwind and entertain surrounding the fireplace. Tv, an open-air lounge where you can sip aperitifs, refreshment centre, internet access, barbecue terrace for fresh grills, cozy firepit and a private swimming pool.
Jack Hana Cottage:
The newly refurbished cottage has been designed with care and attention to the original design and architecture making it an ideal hideaway in a busy adventure filled escape. Jack’s legacy is felt throughout the restores living areas, with the original dining table, chairs, the wood flooring as well the intimate private garden terrace. Also retained is the original cottage sign, Jack’s original guestbook with years of documented high-profile guests and photographs telling a great story of his years in Rwanda. The new design of the Game Room was created with a luxury experience in mind and has wooden board games, cards to a boutique cinema room, and a fully equipped dining area where one can escape for a drink.
