Manda Bay Lodge

Location: Manda Island, Lamu County, Kenya.

Overview

Manda Bay is a small privately owned boutique lodge located on the northern tip of Manda Island in the Lamu archipelago on Kenya’s coast. An unspoilt, secluded location where you can switch off from the rest of the world, take your shoes off and enjoy simplistic beauty in palm thatched cottages and open living spaces.

All the 22 bedroom Villas are made from locally sourced materials – wood, palm woven matting floors and palm thatching. The bedrooms Villas are simplistic with open air windows with neither shutters nor glass.

Each room has an oversized walk in mosquito net, overhead fans, en-suite bathrooms, verandah with chairs and a swing bed.

Manda Bay combines the bush and beach experience. Whilst miles of soft white sand and coconut palms surround the lodge itself, the bush behind the lodge is dry country scattered with Doum palms, Acacia Tortilis and savannah-like scrub. A variety of birds and mammals (mongoose, civet cat, porcupine, genet cat, dik-dik, buffalo and bushbuck) can be seen on the island.

Manda Bay is open all year round. May-Oct: Predominantly the wetter season, with strong south-easterly winds, rougher seas and cooler temperatures (average temp 26-28oC). Over Christmas Season, a five night minimum stay is required. Children under 5 stay for free.
