Location: Olkeramatian and Shompole Ranches, Kenya
Overview
Located in a remote location on the lower slopes of the Great Rift Valley escarpment, southern Kenya, not far from the intensely alkaline lakes Magadi and Natron, with views of Shompole Mountain in front. The lodge sits on a ridge at the foot of the escarpment in the 25,000 hectare Olkeramatian Conservancy which is owned by the local Masai community.
Uniqueness of this Camp
Lentorre, the Olkeramatian and Shompole ranches are one of the few areas in Africa where wildlife and livestock co-exist in harmony, each utilizing the resources (pasture and water) at different times.
Accommodation
There are six villas built from timber, canvas and thatch with two villas of two bedrooms, ideal for family, along with a central lounge. Upstairs bedroom for children and the other is on level as the main bedroom with en-suite bathrooms, ceiling fans, private plunge pools on the private decks.
The open sided design is for guests to enjoy the magnificent views. The Lodge has a maximum capacity of 16 guests with four double/ twin villas and two family units. Each room is set up differently each with its own generous sized plunge pool. Children of all ages allowed.
Amenities
The Amenities: The lodges has two main buildings, one higher up the hill than the other. Both have a bar and dining spaces, and while the upper lodge has superb views of the surrounding wilderness, the lower part is close to the waterhole and the air-conditioned sunken hide. The lower part also has a main pool.
Activities
Day & Night game viewing drives,, guided walking safaris, tubing down the Ewaso Nyiro River, bird watching, walking with baboons, star gazing, community visits, children’s activities, bush dining, visit to Lake Magadi & Lake Natron, scenic helicopter flights, The Lentorre hide is a sunken air-conditioned space with sound proofing, professional lighting and the best glass that you can use for photography. The hide itself has two beds, and the other room has a bunk bed allowing for overnights (The Hide activity is best in the dry months of September and October, and February and March) but this varies depending on the level of rains, and fishing on Ewaso Nyiro.
