Overview
The Fanjove Private Island is located 140km from Dar es Salaam, south of Mafia Archipelago and one of the Islands under Songo Songo Archipelago. The Island is accessible from Dar es Salaam through Mafia Island to Songo Songo Airstrip a 50-minute flight on Coastal Aviation twice a day then proceed on a short boat ride to the shore for a 45minute boat or dhow ride to Fanjove Island.
The Fanjove Private Island is home to The Fanjove Island Lodge, with only six bandas, offering guests guest exclusivity of the island and amenities. The Island is an incomparable tropical island, secluded and exclusive, powder-white sands, palm-fringed beach, sky blue and a whole island to yourself.
The island, previously uninhabited, except for some local fishermen who use it as an occasionally fishing base. Being secluded, Fanjove has an abundant resident marine life, and guests here can explore the beautiful beaches, coastline, and wildlife in privacy, or under the directive of the dedicated staff from the lodge.
The Island is home to over 40 bird species, largely marine birds with the migratory birds in from November through March, a great time for birdwatchers as the birds are in their plumage, additionally this is the nesting place for sea turtles, and coconut crabs.
As you explore the area, you can indulge in kayaking around the island, go on sandbank picnics, dive into the untainted coral reefs or just relax on a beach lounger and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere after a long safari. The lodge has an open-air restaurant and lounge area, here you can gaze at the starlit skies in an undisturbed surrounding or arrange for a sundowner at the top of the 19th century lighthouse.

10 eco-friendly private beach villas set along the sandy shore; each villa is open at the front to capture the uninterrupted ocean view, the construction used traditional, natural material (sustainable wood), makuti (palm leaves and thatch. The rooms are ensuite bathroom, with an out-door shower, double washbasin, veranda with a hammock and a sitting area.
