Northern Serengeti, Lobo & Loliondo
Location: Serengeti National Park, Tanzania
Overview:
Northern Serengeti, Lobo & Loliondo: The northern regions of the Serengeti stretch from Lobo Hills southward to Seronera, represented by green rolling hills, a pleasant diversion from the much flatter southern plains, yet unspoiled and quiet in comparison to the southern plains.
The northern region serves as an essential corridor for the Great Migration connecting the southern green season short-grass plains with the dry season areas up north. This vast pristine area of wooded rolling hills scattered with open grassy patches and large granite outcrops extends north for 55 miles from Seronera, central Serengeti to the Maasai Mara Game Reserve in Kenya.
This region is best visited in September and October as the Great Wildebeest Migration transit the area on a southward journey from Serengeti, Mara area and back to the southeastern Serengeti Plains. There is still plenty of wildlife to see during other times of the year, with large elephant herds especially around Lobo and pride of lions around Lobo Hills, cheetah, leopard, spotted hyenas, elegant serval are also common.
June to July and again from September to November sees massive herds of wildebeest and zebra making the dangerous crossing of crocodile infested Mara River, this sector equally has a great concentration of resident animals including giraffe, topi, and eland. The quietness of the north, gives you less tourist traffic during game drives in complete privacy.
