Tanzania
Tanzania, a country in East Arica known for its vast wilderness areas, scenery, topography and very friendly people in a total area of 947,300 km² (365,754 mi²) and a total coastline of 1,424 km (884.8 mi). There are more than 100 distinct ethnic groups and tribes in Tanzania, with the Sukuma who represents nearly 13% of the total population, and Christianity is the most widely professed religion with a substantial Muslim minority.
Tanzania is one of the best places for tourists, and promises the best wildlife photographic safaris on the continent. Arusha City is renowned as the safari capital of Tanzania, the town has numerous first-class hotels. The northern safari circuit begins and ends in Arusha for most tourists. There are 22 National parks many of which form the core of a much larger protected ecosystem and currently 14 established conservancies covering an area of 147,000 hectares.
These include the plains of Serengeti National Park, home to the Big Five (elephant, lion, leopard, buffalo, rhino), great annual wildebeest migration and Kilimanjaro National Park, home to Africa’s highest mountain. Offshore lies the tropical islands of Zanzibar, with Arabic influences, and Mafia, with a marine park home to whale sharks and coral reefs.
The Sukuma are a Bantu ethnic group from the southeastern African Great Lakes region, Chaga tribe, who are Bantu-speaking people live on the fertile southern slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro in northern Tanzania, which is also home of the Hadzabe, one of the last remaining hunter-gatherer tribes on Earth.
The Maasai inhabit the many game parks of the African Great Lakes and reside in northern Tanzania whilst the Iraqw tribe, whose original ancestors originated in Ethiopia, migrated southwards, down the Great Rift Valley before settling in part of Northern Tanzania.
