Lemek Conservancy

Area: 19,000 acre
Overview
The Lemek Conservancy is located within the Maasai Mara Game Reserve, consisting of Lemek Ranch a total of 45,000 ha. The local members total 500 and manage in Lemek under the supervision of Chairman Mr. Tinka, and certain board members, with some privately owning a ranch within the area.
Situated on the northern part of Maasai Mara Game Reserve, bordering Mara North Conservancy. Accessible by Road from Nairobi to Masai Mara Game Reserve an approximately 5 1/2 hours drive (270 km (168 m) and by air to the Mara North airstrip or the Ngerende airstrip.
Being a natural reserve area, called to protect the land eco-system and wildlife, to further include human co-existence in the cycle of the environment. There is an abundance of herbivorous animals in this conservancy, as such the Lemek Maasai members help the herbivorous animals by burning off fields for cattle grazing.
The Conservancy was established on 1st January 2009, purposely for sustainable use and promotion of natural and cultural resources in the area, to make sure that the effect on the natural environment through tourism is kept at a minimum, ensure the communities equally divide the benefits which come from tourism.
And Members of the Lemek Conservancy have made effective this trust with the understanding of responsibility in order to preserve the future of the natural resource, and environment which is part of the natural heritage.

- Lemek Conservancy is the best game viewing area in Masai Mara.
