Kalama Conservancy
Location: Foot hill of Mount Kenya, Laikipia County, Kenya

Overview
This conservancy is located in the foothills of Mount Kenya, in the heart of one of Kenya’s most beautiful wildlife regions, Laikipia. With 14,000 acres of private land, and views of over 200,000 acres, Karama is one of the most magical habitats. Boasting an abundance of birds and wildlife including four of the big five (black and white rhinos are found in the neighboring sanctuaries)
The conservancy is open all year round to visitors, offering the perfect African safari destination, with complete privacy and tailor-made luxury for all groups. All three accommodation options differ one from the other, each catering to a different group, giving the opportunity to completely immerse themselves in nature in the hands of passionate and experienced staff.

This habitat support 430 verified bird species, the northern Kenyan Grevy’s Zebra, Gerenuk, and Vulturine Guinea Fowl, outstanding views of natural beauty, wake up to the peaks of Mount Kenya and fall asleep to the sounds of Ewaso Nyiro River. It’s all about freedom and privacy here, whether you go on guided walks, fly camp under the stars, or game viewing drives to mention a few.
Due to the high altitude, the conservancy is on, it’s considered a very low-risk environment for malaria, in the green seasons the conservancy doesn’t get ‘grass mozzies’, here repellents are very useful. Mosquito nets are available for the bandas and cottages to necessitate utmost comfort.
The Conservancy is 4 hrs drive from Nairobi, One hour from Nanyuki, and 4×4 vehicles are recommended, accessible by air with 2 scheduled flights from Wilson to Nanyuki (40mins flight time), El Karama private airstrip is 800m where charter flights can land during daylight.

Accommodation Options
Ideally, guests usually stay a minimum of 4 – 5 nights at Karama., game drives, night drives, and all the relaxation that is on offer outside of the wildlife activities.
- El Karama Eco Lodge: the four Banda Cottages have a spacious central double or twin-bedded room, The Rondavel Cottage – a large double bed, two single beds, and a sofa and is ideal for families or small groups. The Hobbit House – largest cottage with 2 bedrooms and an internal bathroom. The master bedroom has a huge double bed, two upper floors have single beds for older children.
- The River Camp: is an Exclusive Use Camp made up of 2 large cottages and a private dining and living room and kitchen, each with double, twin, or triple beds available.
- El Karama Wild (2022): A unique and exclusive use bush camp experience designed for complete privacy and immersion in nature, in four light and spacious bedroom tents designed with a natural, organic aesthetic to maximize comfort and serenity.
