Zanzibar consists of a group of Islands located in the Indian Ocean from the eastern side of the African continent. Zanzibar was historically subordinate to the rule of the Omani Sultan as was most of the east coast of Africa. The Island sits on 2,461 km² area, and is about 85 km (53 mi) long and 39 km (24 mi) wide, 35kms from the Coast of Tanzania.
Zanzibar consists of two major islands, Pemba and Unguja (Zanzibar Island), renown as the Spice Islands, a major part of the Islands economy after tourism. A visit to Pemba Island which is part of Tanzania’s Zanzibar Archipelago, lush, green hills and clove plantations. The Pemba Channel is home to coral reefs and abundant marine life.
Jozani Chwaka bay national Park is the only national park in the Zanzibar Island, lies 35km south east from Zanzibar City, between Chawaka and Uzi Bay. This is the last natural forest of Unguja covering and area of 10 km² with some of the older trees more than 100 years.
Also, a sanctuary for the blue Monkey, Red Colobus monkey, chameleon, the small Zanzibar leopard, mongoose, and many more. Two small antelope species only found in Zanzibar namely Aders’s duiker and The Zanzibar suni.
