Location: Serengeti National Park, Tanzania
Overview:
Serengeti National Park is one of the World Heritage Site listed by the United Nations delegates in Stockholm in 1981, this abundance of wildlife is over two million ungulates, 550 cheetah, 1000 leopards, 4000 lions and over 500 species of birds inhabiting and area of approx. 15,000 sq.km. The Serengeti plains are dotted with trees and kopjes where the lions stand to survey their territory.
The elusive leopard may be found along the riverine forest whereas the plains are home to millions of wildebeest, zebras, gazelles and elands on a mass trek to quench their thirst for water and graze. The seasonal pattern motion of these large herd of animals, is only witnessed between the Serengeti and Maasai Mara in East Africa.
A chance to have a bird’s-eye view as you soar over the plains at sunrise in a hot air-balloon, with the chance to reach areas where 4×4 vehicles may not reach on a normal game drive. It doesn’t matter what season you visit; the Serengeti National Park is magical all year round as the park is not fenced, to allow the animals room to make their return journey.
The Serengeti has one of the largest concentration of predators in the world, supported by hyenas, lions, and cheetahs. Elephants are often seen in the woodlands feasting on leaves and tree branches. The park is accessible through the main gate at Naabi Hills, Ndabaka Gate for the Western Corridor region, and the Klein’s gate far north east of the park.
