Overview:
Rubondo Island is Africa’s largest Island National Park a 26km long and 10 km wide, a tropical Island, truly remote and untouched paradise. Located southwest of Lake Victoria, an extraordinary wildlife conservation area. The Rubondo Island has only one accommodation, making it a must visit in Tanzania.
From 1960s, the island has been a haven for wild chimpanzee, sitatunga antelope, elephant and giraffes with over 75% pr the island is covered in pristine equatorial rainforest. The island is home to a few park wardens and researcher aside from visitors. With some 300 bird species of birds, a boat cruise around the peaceful lake with a pair of binoculars.
The Island has its own airstrip and is accessible through Dar es Salaam, Zanzibar, Arusha or the Serengeti. The best time to visit due to low humidity and less rainfall is June and October.
