Overview:

Nakuru County is 3 hr 7mins (100 mi) drive from Nairobi, located in the former Rift Valley province in Kenya, it’s the 3rd most populous county after Nairobi and Kiambu accordingly. The county is made up of 11 constituencies, and being a cosmopolitan county, its population originates from all major tribe of Kenya. The Kikuyu and the Kalenjin are the dominant communities making 70% of the county’s population.

Nakuru is an agriculturally-rich county and both communities are mainly engaged in farming, livestock rearing and trade business. Nakuru is blessed with various tourist attractions, the flamingoes in lake Nakuru National Park, the Menegai Crater, Lord Egerton Castle, Soysambu Conservancy and the Hyrax Hill Site to mention a few.

The Lake is primarily known for the many species of aquatic birds more especially the vast numbers of the pink flamingoes, in terms of wildlife the park has waterbucks, impalas, and hippos. Nakuru town lies on the northern shore and is enclosed by the lake and adjacent lands.

Naivasha is a popular local and international tourist destination, and is a large town in Nakuru County, with agriculture as the main industry, focus on floriculture. The Town is 1 hr 25 mins (43.9 mi) drive, and 28mins drive (12.2 mi) to Hells Gate National Park which was the main location for The Lion King, including Pride Rock and the Gorge were modelled after the park. Other attractions include Mount Longonot, Lake Naivasha home to a number of bird species, and other wildlife.
