Lekurruki Conservancy Accommodation
Location: Rift Valley Province, Laikipia County, Northern Kenya
Area: 800 ha (11,953 ha group ranch)
Overview
This conservancy is owned by a community of Mukogodo Maasai, situated on a 60,000-acre Group Ranch shared with Tassia Lodge. The only lodge on this conservancy that allows guests complete privacy in a wilderness area largely untouched by tourism. Both are part of a network of community-owned eco-lodges and conservancies under the Northern Rangeland Trust.
Lekurruki Conservancy is managed by the resident Mukogodo Maasai, with the aim of protecting and improving it to benefit the people, livestock, and wildlife alike. With the construction of the lodge in 2000, the door opened to guests in June 2001, as a premier tourist destination in northern Kenya, incorporating the true spirit of the unspoiled African bush.
The lodge employs 90% of its staff from the Lekurruki Group Ranch and provides valuable revenue for the conservancy, split between the annual operation costs (40%) and community projects such as water pumps, school bursaries, and infrastructure (60%) being one of the 33 conservancies that collectively make up the Northern Rangelands.
