Hotel des Mille Collines (meaning Hotel of Thousand Hills) was established in 1973 as the premier grand hotel in Rwanda, ideally located in the central business district with easy access to the city centre. The hotel is a landmark in Rwanda, as it sheltered about 2,000 people during the genocide against the Tutsi in 1994.
