Overview
The Tarangire National Park’s, 2,850 km² landscape composed of granitic ridges, river valley, swamps, vegetation mix of Acacia woodland, Combretum woodland, seasonally flooded grassland, and baobab trees in a secluded area sits Sanctuary Swala Camp amongst giant acacia trees and looking out beyond the flat savannah.

Tarangire is a popular stop for visitors travelling through the northern safari circuit heading to Ngorongoro or Serengeti, the park is known for its highest population density of elephants compares to anywhere in Tanzania due to its sparse vegetation, strewn with baobab and acacia trees.
‘Swala’ is Swahili for impalas, who are regular visitors of the Camp, is accessible by road from Arusha Town a 3 hr 49min drive(94mi), and by air the closest airstrip is Kuro, approx. 45 mins drive to the Camp. Arusha to Kuro Airstrip is a 25min flight on a once a day scheduled light aircraft, and private charters can also be organized.
The Camp sits on stilts around ancient towering baobab trees, an elevated dining area, lounge and library are sound-tracked by the sing-song of the hundreds of bird species that have their home in the mature acacia tree’s canopy, ornithologists say that 23 are exclusively endemic to this corner of the world. The Camp offers a variety of activities from day and night game drives, guided walking safaris, sundowners, picnics and bush dinners.

The king-size beds (double or twin) are wrapped in neutral linens, ensuite with indoor and out door bush view showers, the floor-to-ceiling 180° views, a hair dryer, ceiling fan, in room safe and mosquito nets. Each tent has a personal attendant to attend to guests’ every need. Complimentary Wi-Fi is available in all guest tents.
