Overview
Papaya Lake Lodge was established by a family who left the life in Europe to find a new home in the heart of Africa. The lodge was opened in 2014, in a place surrounded by lush, evergreen landscapes of the Ugandan Great Crater Lakes Region, set between two extinct volcanoes, settled against the turquoise waters of the Lyantonde and Kifuruka lakes with thrilling views over the majestic Rwenzori Mountain Range.
The lodge is a 5 hr 50min drive from Kampala City (193 mi) in one of the most scenic regions in the country. The Greater Crater Lakes area boasts of over 40 extinct volcanic carters, each is uniquely shaped, in size and colour, and boosts its own distinct ecosystem. Two of these features are found at the doorstep of Papaya Lake Lodge, to the west is the snow-capped Rwenzori Mountains towering above, breathing life into the valleys and rifts, the magnificent countless vanilla, banana, coffee and tea plantations.
The lodge comprises of 9 luxurious cottages, a bright common area of the restaurant well planned with beautifully arranged corners, each uniquely decorated with fine pieces of local art and crafts, a swimming pool with a scenic terrace, and a bar. During the day, enjoy reading a book on a snug sofa or sit on the terrace sunbed laid out at the front of the restaurant with panoramic views of the lake.
Papaya’s fine cuisine has a combination of traditions from all over the world, as every dish is home-made with fresh herbs, fruits and vegetables. The common area is lit by kerosene lamps, as you sit on the cozy sofas next to the bar sipping Uganda coffee, along with a selection of finest spirits of choice.
