Kwihala Camp

Location: Karatu, Arusha, Tanzania

Overview

Kwihala Camp is a frontier-style camp offering unparallel access to the Ruaha National Park’s large population of big cats, herds of buffalo and elephant. Here, guests are allowed to experience a diversity of animals as well as the largest number of bird species recorded in the whole of East Africa.

The remoteness of the park, allows guests to have peaceful game drives as there are fewer visitors than most parks.

The camp is set deep in the forest, surrounded by rain, fig, sausage and Jackalberry trees with its proximity to the Mwagusi River, a location visited a lot by wildlife in search of water at this river. With only six beautifully designed tents, all ensuite facilities, Kwihala presents an intimate and memorable authentic safari experience.

Featuring king-sized beds, a fan, mosquito net, ensuite bathrooms, double vanity basins, flushing toilets, and hot water safari bucket showers. The shady veranda is the vantage point to watch elephants or kudus wandering past the camp. The Camp’s main lounge and dining area are the social heart of the camp, here you will enjoy meals with fellow guests and chill out in the afternoon.

At night you could venture out with a spotlight to find nocturnal animals like bush babies and hyenas with a guide on a night game drive, finishing off around the campfire with a glass of wine under the stars. You may hear the nearby Ikuka water falls in the still night air.

The camp is open all year round and accessible by air to Msembe airstrip a 45-minute drive to the camp. Children ages five and older are welcome, but the camp is closed between December and June.
