Overview

Ruaha is home to an incredible diversity of wildlife, some of the largest population of elephants and lions left in Africa. Known to be a birder’s paradise with over 500 species of birds, representing a biodiversity transition zone between southern and eastern Africa where many species overlap and crossover into a unique wildlife display.

Known for its diverse landscapes of savannah, mighty baobab trees, miombo, rocky hills, kopjes and the Great Ruaha River. The Park is featured among the southern circuit with destinations including Nyerere National Park, Katavi and Mahale National Parks. Ikuka Safari Camp opened in Ruaha July 2016, and is perched on the edge of the Mwagusi escarpment commanding spectacular views across the Ruaha valley.

Ikuka offers a classic luxury wilderness experience, comprising of just 7 well-appointed rooms with its own panoramic vista of the Ruaha wilderness. 

As an exclusive owner-run and managed camp, the owners ensure a personal and private safari experience, offering the attentive traveller an opportunity to enjoy some of Africa’s most incredible landscapes and wildlife-rich area in the knowledge that their stay is also supporting the local communities and protecting the area’s ecological heritage.

The Tanzania Southern Safari circuit is accessible by air, with daily flights between major National Parks and cities in Tanzania to the Msembe Airstrip a 45min flight, the camp is open all year round and short rains start from December to May and game drives are in open 4×4 safari vehicles, however no night drives. Private vehicles are at an extra charge and subject to availability with option of a guided walking safari for guests over 16 years.
